Fishing Reports
Summer 2010

July 22, 2010 - The fishing has been as hot as the blazing weather this week.  We've been getting a good mixed bag of rock, specks, pups, flatties & blues.  On Tuesday, a customer landed our first citation speckled trout of the year... but of course, I forgot the camera.  Stripers have been crushing topwater flies in less than 2ft of water at first light.  One morning we had a bonanza of action as a school of 20-30 stripers blasted peanut bunker on a widgeon grass flat.  With temps in the 70's & lower 80's, the early morning weather is comfortable and the fishing is hard to beat.

July 18, 2010 - Today was my 27th charter in as many days.  With a day off tomorrow, I'm looking forward to catching up on my sleep!  Fishing from now through early September is often the best of the year.  I have several openings for the remainder of July.  Let me know if you want to wet a line for a guaranteed good time!

July 13, 2010 - Due to the cold winter, the puppy drum (juvenile red drum) have been a late show this summer.  The prolonged frigid temperatures sent many of our specks and reds into the lower Carolina's and killed most that stayed in VA and upper NC.  The good news is that the hot weather this summer should push both species back into the region in good numbers for late summer and early fall.  We are seeing more specks each week and are finally catching a few reds.  I believe we will have good fishing for both from August through October.  Of course, the stripers are plentiful and keeping rods bent!

July 9, 2010 - There are some large rockfish roaming the shallows.  We have lost several nice fish including one brute that busted the butt section of a 7wt fly rod into three pieces!  We've also had stripers in the 30-34" range follow hooked fish to the boat.  The striped bass fishing has been great and hopefully we will see an increase in the number of specks and reds as the season progresses.

July 4, 2010 - The cooler weather of the last few days has been a welcome break from the record heat of June.  We have been averaging 20-30 stripers per trip plus a mixed bag of flounder, specks, bluefish and croaker.  I hope everyone is having an excellent Independence Day!

June 30, 2010 - This week I've had the pleasure of guiding several good young anglers.  Way to go kids!

June 26, 2010 - Summer has started out with a bang as quality striped bass to 33” and a few nice speckled trout have been busting on baitfish around shallow water structure.  Fishing low light conditions is the name of the game.  Hitting the water at dawn leads to fast action during the summer.  Not only are the fish active at first light but air temperatures are comfortable and the sunrises are beautiful.  If you’re not a early riser, fishing at dusk is the next best bet.  Summer brings a great mixed bag of species to the shallows.  Striped bass, speckled trout, redfish, bluefish, flounder, croaker, white perch and many others take up residence on shallow structure.  It is not uncommon to catch 6 or more species in a morning.  For a taste of the action take a look at my website fishing reports from last summer.  August, in particular, was fantastic.  During the month, we landed numerous citation sized specks, quality reds and plentiful catch and release stripers.  One great thing about shallow water fishing during the warmer months is that all age and skill levels can enjoy in the fun.  From fishing live peanut bunker on a spinning rod to sight casting to busting fish with a fly rod, there is something exciting for everyone.  Be sure to contact me as soon as possible to reserve a memorable day on the water!
